Do you have high-functioning anxiety?

Do you worry incessantly about things in the future, even things you can’t control? Do you have impossibly high expectations at work, but you don’t feel satisfied even when you achieve them? Do you have an intense fear of letting people down & overthink constantly?

You could have high-functioning anxiety.

The term “high functioning anxiety” is not an official diagnosis but is rising in popularity online. “High functioning” anxiety tends to push people forward rather than immobilise them, which makes these people seem like the picture of success. While “high functioning” anxiety may make people outgoing, punctual, proactive, & helpful, a huge mental struggle usually lies under the veil of success. These people may be putting their health & wellness at risk, engaging in people-pleasing, limiting their social life outside of work, experiencing insomnia & mental fatigue, & performing nervous habits like chewing nails or pulling out hair.
