New Year’s Resolutions

With the Australian summer bushfires and the global COVID-19 pandemic that continues to grip the globe, 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone.

With the immense amount of ongoing uncertainty, you may ask whether it is worth setting New Year’s resolutions for 2021? Our answer is YES!

We know 2021 will bring challenges of its own, however no matter how big or small, achieving a goal you have set yourself can have a positive impact on your mental and physical wellbeing.

“Making resolutions is a cleansing ritual of self-assessment and repentance that demands personal honesty and, ultimately, reinforces humility.  Breaking them is part of the cycle.” – Eric Zorn, Columnist at the Chicago Tribune

To help you get started, we’ve shared our top tips to making and sticking to your goals in 2021:

  1. Reflect on what you have been doing and what you want to do

You must know where you are to know where you want to go. Looking at what your currently doing, whether this be at work, in your social life or relating to your exercise regime, can help to identify what you can improve on or what you could change. Harness your experience from the 2020 to help guide you in 2021!

  • Create micro goals to help you reach a larger goal

We often find ourselves intimidated by a large, daunting goal that seems almost impossible to achieve. However, breaking this into smaller steps can help us build the momentum we need to achieve more!

  • Write down your goals! Manifest it!

Get your goals on to paper – whether you write it down or pin a picture up, being able to see your goals visually, will help hold you accountable, with one study suggesting you are 42% more likely to achieve your goals if they are written down.

  • Be kind to yourself!

Each year brings new challenges and balancing work, family, health and social lives can be difficult. If you’re not where you thought you would be a year ago, be kind to yourself and use it to guide your goals for the coming year!
