Aging is the process that causes our body to decay, our muscles to shrink, our skin to sag, our digestive tract to work less efficiently, wrinkles to form on our skin, and countless other problems.

Nowadays, everyone is seeking a new way to help reduce the ageing process.

While we can’t fight the progression of time, we can do everything in our power to slow down the aging process, in order to keep the body feeling and looking as healthy and youthful as possible.

Here are a few longevity or anti-aging secrets to adopt today, to prevent premature ageing:

  1. Exfoliate regularly – exfoliate to remove dead skin cells to allow the body to produce new, fresh, and healthy skin cells. Using an exfoliating scrub containing alpha hydroxyl acid or beta hydroxyl acid (aka salicylic acid) regularly – three or four times a week – will keep your skin in good shape and slow the signs of aging.
  • Be sun smart – spend at least 30 minutes in the sun every day to absorb Vitamin D, which is critical for your internal functions, and plays a role in everything from maintaining bone density, to fat loss. Remember however, to be sun-smart, and protect yourself from excessive sunlight and radiation. Be sure to use UV-protective sunscreen or makeup when spending more than 30 minutes in the sun.
  • Move more – any inactivity will weaken your muscles and put added pressure on your spine. Stand up and move around more. Use a standing desk or take a short walk every hour.
  • Sleep – create a sleep schedule, as it will help you to manage and lose weight, improve your metabolism, maintain good brain function, increase productivity, and so much more. The more you sleep, the more you give your body time to repair from damage done to your organs, skin, muscles, joints, and bones in the daytime.
  • Lift weights – resistance training is the secret to staying young, active, and fit well into your latter years. Not only will stronger muscles protect your bones and joints more effectively, but you’ll find that you move better and have a much lower risk of injury.
  • Drink More Water – water is critical for hydration, and it helps to keep everything in your body healthy – your skin, internal organs, digestive system, metabolism, liver, and much more. Also be sure to drink at least three litres of water per day.
  • Reduce sugar intake – sugar adds substantial unhealthy body fat and blocks arteries, reduces immune efficiency, imbalances blood sugar levels, and causes skin problems. Reducing sugar intake leads to clear skin, improves hair health, maintains dental health, and improves your overall health and wellbeing.
  • Cleanse and moisturise – follow a two-step skin cleaning routine. Initially cleanse the skin to remove dead skin cells, pollutants, and cosmetics. Secondly, moisturise to add a layer of protective oil between the skin and sunlight, toxins, pollutants, and to lock in nutrients.
  • Improve metabolism – A healthy metabolism burns excess fat. Exercise is the leading metabolism booster. Sipping green tea and yerba mate, to consuming healthier, metabolism-friendly whole foods, will boost metabolism.
  1. Mental health – Meditation, mindfulness practices, stress management, and good emotional self-care will keep your mind sharp and help retard mental aging.
